1. Harvest often for bigger yields
When it comes to courgettes, cucumbers and beans, there's one golden rule: the more you harvest, the more flowers and fruit your plants will produce. Leave a courgette on the plant for too long and it will put all its energy into that one oversized fruit instead of producing new ones.
2. Pick at the right time of day
The best time to harvest is early in the morning or late in the evening. Plants are fully hydrated then, making vegetables crispier and helping them stay fresh for longer.
3. Prune your herbs the smart way
Basil, mint and parsley are the flavour makers of your greenhouse. Cut them just above a pair of leaves and they'll naturally branch out again, providing fresh herbs throughout the summer.
4. Pick summer fruit at peak ripeness
Currants, raspberries and gooseberries are ready when they've developed their full colour and come off the plant easily. If you have to pull, give them another day. Harvested more than you can eat? Freeze them or turn them into delicious homemade jam.
