How to choose the greenhouse that suits you
Looking for a greenhouse to complement your vegetable garden or to create a cozy spot in your garden to relax? You might experience some stress choosing the right one, as the range of greenhouses is vast and it's not always clear which greenhouse best suits your needs. Euro-Serre is here to guide you...
Material choice
Let's start with the "framework" of your greenhouse, the frame. You usually have three options: wood, plastic, or aluminium. Wood gives a natural, warm feeling but requires a lot of maintenance, needing treatment every one to two years. Maintenance is almost non-existent with a plastic greenhouse. It is often a cheaper option for the frame of your greenhouse, which can sometimes be reflected in the overall appearance. Many people find a plastic greenhouse less attractive than one made of wood or aluminium.
An aluminium greenhouse offers a beautiful combination of various advantages. It is a light and extremely strong material, super durable, and fully recyclable. Additionally, it requires minimal maintenance and provides many options for finishing your greenhouse. Think of wide (73 cm) or narrower (36 cm) panes, a RAL colour of your choice, extra doors, or a Victorian ridge to crown your greenhouse.
Glass choice
Your plants need light to grow. Therefore, a light-transmitting wall is essential. This can be achieved with plastic, glass, or polycarbonate in different thicknesses to achieve a certain degree of insulation in your greenhouse.
If you have a limited budget, you might opt for a tunnel greenhouse or a polyethylene greenhouse. These consist of plastic arches covered with a plastic film. No foundation is needed and they are easy to move, but they are also very sensitive to weather. Suitable for a novice gardener, but not the best choice for a long-term investment.
Glass allows the most light to pass through of all materials, ideal for photosynthesis and healthy plant growth. It is low maintenance, looks beautiful, and offers various options. Choose from standard float glass or horticultural glass, safety glass, or extra insulating glass for a tropical greenhouse.
Or opt for safe polycarbonate. This plastic sheet provides an extra insulating layer; it is unbreakable, strong, and light. However, keep in mind that polycarbonate usually needs to be replaced over time because the sheets become more porous and thus easier to damage or discolour.

Location
Is space in your garden limited? Then you might better invest in a wall greenhouse. This is placed against the wall of your house or an outbuilding, requiring less space.
Prefer a free-standing greenhouse? Then consider your ambitions. Do you just want to give your seedlings a place and grow a few crops that benefit from some extra shelter? Then go for a smaller model like the Euro-Maxi or Euro-Rustiq. If you're thinking more of a nice relaxation space in your garden or want to use your greenhouse as extra storage for your garden tools, look at the larger models like the Euro-Plus or a Euro-Victorian.
At Euro-Serre, we believe in quality for your greenhouse. That’s why we always opt for aluminium frames with glass.
