What foundation do I need for my greenhouse?
A solid foundation is the base of your greenhouse and the key to years of gardening enjoyment. It’s best to prepare this in advance, while you’re eagerly awaiting your Euro-Serre.
There are two options: a self-supporting aluminium base frame (for level, stable ground) or a concrete foundation (for uneven or unstable terrain). Read on to discover which option suits your situation best and how to prepare your ground properly.
Preparing the ground
Before installing the foundation, the ground must be properly prepared. This applies whether you assemble the greenhouse yourself or opt for installation by our professional team.
Make sure the surface is level and free of obstacles such as stones, plants and roots. Remove all grass and firmly compact the soil.
FOUNDATION METHOD 1: ALUMINIUM BASE FRAME
When should you choose an aluminium base frame?
For a flat and stable surface, a self-supporting aluminium base frame is usually sufficient. It forms the base of your greenhouse and eliminates the need for a concrete foundation.
How does it work?
Your Euro-Serre kit includes four base profiles. Place them directly on the level ground, ensuring they are perfectly level and the corners are exactly square. Then anchor the profiles into the ground using ground anchors.
For extra stability, you can pour quick-setting concrete around the anchors after the greenhouse has been fully assembled. Please note: the concrete is not included in the kit and is only applied after installation.
FOUNDATION METHOD 2: CONCRETE FOUNDATION
When is a concrete foundation needed?
If your garden has slopes or uneven terrain, or if the soil is less stable, a concrete foundation is the best choice.
How does it work?
Indicate during your order that you will be working with a concrete base. We will then supply a smaller base profile, which can be fixed onto the concrete edge or foundation to ensure a stable and secure installation.
