Is a Euro-Serre watertight?
A Euro-Serre is a sturdy structure with plenty of natural light and an ideal microclimate that allows your plants and vegetables to thrive. However, it is not 100% watertight. Some water may seep in through the joints, but don’t worry—you won’t need an umbrella to harvest your tomatoes!
Not watertight, but perfect for plants
Unlike window profiles used in conservatories and homes to create a completely sealed environment, our aluminium greenhouse profiles are specifically designed to promote ventilation and moisture regulation. A fully watertight greenhouse would disrupt air circulation, leading to temperature fluctuations and excess humidity. Ideal for mold, but not for your plants! With a Euro-Serre, your crops are well protected from wind and weather while still receiving exactly what they need: a warm, humid environment to support healthy growth.
What about condensation?
Where warmth and humidity meet, condensation occurs. A greenhouse is no exception. The warm air inside collides with the cooler glass, causing moisture to condense into droplets. This is a natural process, but too much condensation can lead to mold formation. Luckily, the solution is surprisingly simple: ventilation!
In a greenhouse, we take an old-school approach by simply opening doors and windows. That’s why roof vents are essential to allow fresh air to flow in. Does your greenhouse have a sliding door? Open it regularly to improve air circulation. No sliding door? Then consider adding a sliding window, so your greenhouse can always breathe. After all, healthy plants don’t just thrive on love and care—they also need a fresh breeze!
From greenhouse to garden retreat
A Euro-Serre may not be 100% watertight, but that doesn’t mean you can’t turn it into a cozy garden room or lounge. Of course, a greenhouse isn’t a conservatory, but with the right setup, you can create a comfortable, inviting space to enjoy almost year-round. If you’re using your greenhouse as a garden room, it’s best to avoid roof vents, as they increase the risk of water infiltration. Instead, an extra door or side window is perfect for ensuring proper ventilation.
Choose materials that can withstand humidity and temperature changes, such as aluminium or treated wood for your furniture. Finish off with mold-resistant cushions and water-repellent fabrics, so everything stays fresh and neat. Looking to add warmth and atmosphere? A durable outdoor rug can handle moisture while instantly making the space feel cozier. Add a few soft throws and some ambient lighting, and you’ll have the perfect spot to relax—even when it’s pouring outside!
